Godliness Is Profitable Unto All Things ( 1 Timothy 4:8 )

For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

1 Timothy 4:8

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amazing isn't how when you look around how much emphasis people put on exercise of their physical body. Now let me go ahead and say there is nothing wrong that as I'm sure God would expect us to take care of it. The point I wish to address is the one Paul was talking about in this verse as he was writing to Timothy. So what is godliness? When you think of godliness words that are associated are righteousness and holiness. As we know on our own, our righteousness is as filthy rags( Isaiah 64:6 ). To me godliness is a continuous lifestyle continuing to conform yourself to His image( Romans 12:1-2 ). I know I won't be perfect this side of heaven, but this very fact motivates me to seek Him more. It motivates me to ask Him where do I need improvement?

Godliness is in fact spiritual maturity and yes that is profitable in all things. For as Christians we should be growing daily. How is this done? This is done by three main ways. One through reading His Word. God has given us not a weapon against the enemy, but a wealth of knowledge for all things. How sad is it that we turn to everything else for problems in our life. Amazing that if someone needs joy or satisfaction they turn to drugs, alcohol, or pornography. Friends if they want true and lasting joy, contentment, and satisfaction all they need to do is open the Word of God. Believe me it is sufficient. Another way is through prayer. Prayer is our direct communication to the Father. Friends it amazes how many 1-800 and 1-900 there are for multiple problems people have. Instead of dialing that number why not pick up the Heavenly hot line and speak to God the Father who is always and always able to answer all your questions. He is never too busy and is there whenever you need Him. The third is through fellowship with your brothers an sisters in Christ at church. This is a wonderful way to grow and to mature in the faith. Find a brother or sister with a heart for God. Find someone who is wise not by their own understanding, but trust in the Lord completely( Proverbs 3:5-6 ).

Friends seek godliness as the Apostle Paul said it is profitable unto all things. The Christian life is not just for Sunday, but is everyday, from the moment you pass from death unto life( John 5:24 ). Live a life worthy of calling( Ephesians 4:1 ). We owe it to Him for our life according to His Word( 1 Corinthians 9:14 ) is not our own as we have been bought with a price( 1 Corinthians 6:20 ).

For anyone reading this tonight who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior I invite you to do so. Ask Him into your heart and your a sinner in need of His forgiveness. Be real with Him and cast all your worries, doubts, and fears at the His feet, the feet of mercy for He cares for you( 1 Peter 5:7 ). Repent of your old ways, your sins and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Don't let your past or not being perfect get in the way( Psalm 103:12, Romans 3:23 ). Instead cast yourself upon His mercy( Luke 18:13 ). Remember He is waiting on you with arms wide open( John 3:16 ). In those arms you will find love( John 15:13 ), mercy( Romans 5:6-8 ), forgiveness( 1 John 1:9 ), and a grace that is sufficient( 2 Corinthians 12:9 ). Will you choose Him ? Will you let Him set you free from the bonds of sin( John 8:36 ) ? I encourage you to do so. This is the single greatest choice you will ever make. It is matter of life and death, life and death eternal( John 3:18 ). Don't wait, make the choice tonight( Matthew 24:36 ) !

I Will Praise You God Always ( Psalm 34:1 )

I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Psalm 34:1

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amen to that. In this verse opening the 34th psalm it saying I will praise you Lord always. This is exactly what we should be doing praising God for all that He does for us. No matter how life gets we should praise God. Right now I'm going through a tough time. My grandmother is back in the hospital since around November last year she has been in and out. Her health isn't the best due to age, but I have found a reason to praise God every time. I've thanked Him for blessing me with another day to see her to this point. Some people don't stop and realize, but grandmothers are a blessing from God. Every good and perfect gift come from heaven( James 1:17 ). To me she has been the perfect grandmother for me. Now I'm not saying she is perfect, but that she has been perfect for me. She has shown me love, compassion, and been the kind of grandmother any kid would love to have. It was because of her I became an Atlanta Braves fan, but even more than that she supported me like a loving grandmother does. As I was talking to one of my sisters in Christ tonight I told her I felt broken inside knowing that possibly I could lose her. Knowing that one year come baseball season she might not be there in the near future. Despite how much I hurt I can still find a reason to praise God. I can praise Him for the many years I have spent with her so far. I can praise Him for the love I received from her and the memories I will have.

You know this makes think of one of my favorite Jeremy Camp songs " I Still Believe." No matter what happens I Still will believe in His Word, No matter what happens I will still believe in His faithfulness. I know when the time comes and she does pass not only will He be with her,but He will be with me and my family to comfort us. Knowing that just adds one more thing to praise Him for. Knowing I serve a loving God who is intimate and cares about me. He spoke and created this world, but at the same time reaches out to us on an individual level. Praise Him! I promise there is much to praise Him for. I know can I praise Him for my family, my friends, my job, the roof over my head, the meals in my belly and the list goes on.

Friends I encourage you when life gets hard praise God. The storms will come, but I promise blue skies will come just hold fast. I encourage you as 2009 continues to share God's Word with someone with zeal. Don't be ashamed for in it is the power of salvation. Remember telling them could make the difference of where they spend eternity.

For anyone reading this tonight who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior I invite you to do so. Ask Him into your heart and admit your a sinner in need of His forgiveness. Be real with Him and cast all your worries, doubts, and fears at His feet, the feet of mercy for He cares for you( 1 Peter 5:7 ). Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right ( Romans 12:17-18 )

Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Romans 12:17-18

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friends I'll tell before knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior this would have seemed weird. I know when I was growing up if someone did me wrong I had to get them back and sadly as kids we can be creative and quite cruel. The one thing we must remember first and foremost is that despite what man as in what others do to us we are not to return evil for the evil they act. Instead bless those who curse you and pray for them. Its not easy, but I promise it will do more good and in fact as the apostle Paul wrote a few verses down be as tossing hot coals on their head( Romans 12:20 ). Friends we need to be living out His Word and through love we are displaying that. We need to stop worrying about seeking vengeance and instead seek to share the gospel with them. For as it is written vengeance is the Lord's( Deuteronomy 32:35 ).

I'm not worried about seeing them getting their punishment here on earth the bible is very clear that those who are sons of disobedience who do not choose Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will get their due punishment. For Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life and none may come to the Father except through me( John 14:6 ). So instead we need to share the gospel and remind them that like them we once were lost in sin. I know that the hymn Amazing Grace sounds so much sweeter ever since giving my life to Christ. The reason is because I know I was that wretch. I was lost in my sin and without the grace of God I had no hope, but praise God that He still saves today just as He has throughout all ages. Remember as it is written that all who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved( Romans 10:13 ).

Then you see in verse 18 it says to live peaceably with all men if possible. Now as Christians that shouldn't be too hard to do. If you seek to live a life according to God's Word you will treat people right and the way God intended things to go. Does this always mean things will go peaceably ? No, but like the apostle Paul said try. God realizes were not perfect, but expects us to give our best to Him. The ways I've found is by treating people the way I like to be treated. For example holding a door open for someone with their hands full or showing someone around school who is new. Believe it or not kindness does not go unnoticed and after all who cares what man thinks, care more what God thinks of how your living( Galatians 1:10 ).

Friends as always I send encouragement as this year continues to move on. Be ready to share God's Word in and out of season( 2 Timothy 4:2 ). Don't be ashamed as in it, is the power of salvation( 1 Corinthians 1:18 ).

Repent of your old ways, your sins and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Don't let your past or not being perfect get in the way( Psalm 103:12, Romans 3:23 ). Rejoice With Those Who Rejoice ( Romans 12:15 )

Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

Romans 12:15

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This verse seems very clear rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. It makes sense as Christians we are a body and more than that we are a family in Christ. When a family member is happy about say doing well on a test or just happy about a beautiful sunny day isn't it only natural to rejoice with them about that. On the flip side say your little sister or brother pet died wouldn't you weep with them to help them in the mourning process.

The same should go with our brothers and sister in Christ, but so much deeper. Do you ever feel something deep in your soul and can't explain, but have the need to pray? I know whenever I feel that way it is God speaking to my soul to pray for a brother or sister. One thing I can tell people and you can guarantee this is we never stop needing prayer. Friends I encourage you the next time you see one of your brothers or sisters in Christ, if they are rejoicing join in and give God the glory. If you find a brother or sister weeping, weep with them, but encourage them reminding them He is there with them comforting them. Remind that there will be a day when there will be no more pain and no more tears.

This verse reminds of a verse in Philippians where it says let this mind be in you, which was in Christ( Philippians 2:5 ). Christ had compassion for those hurting and as the scriptures say sent so we could have eternal life( John 3:16 ). Essentially He rejoices with us when we rejoice and weeps with us when we weep. There isn't a single step in life we walk alone. In fact more often He carries us. One of my favorite Jeremy Camp songs really drives this point in the opening lyrics, " the reason why I stand the answer lies in you, you hung to make me strong." The very reason I can stand is because of Him and the reason I have the strength to fight the good is because of Him. I know through His strength I can do all things( Philippians 4:13 ) and with that I push forward remembering this life isn't about me,but all about Him. I remember there are those looking for answers, hope, and truth. I know that He can satisfy all three.

Friends I encourage you to push forward in 2009. No matter how bleak things look with the economy and just the world in general. Remember perfect strength is made in weakness( 2 Corinthians 12:9 ). Stay strong and hold fast to the faith. He is faithful and He will take of you. As it is written the just shall live by faith ( Habakkuk 2:4 ).

Repent of your old ways, your sins and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Don't let your past or not being perfect get in the way( Psalm 103:12, Romans 3:23 ). Give The Best ( Proverbs 3:9 )

Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase

Proverbs 3:9

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Give God your best and He will bless you. First and foremost you must learn that what you have is because of Him. When we put in perspective that giving Him this is such a small offering/sacrifice compared to the one He made by sending His son to die for our sins. In fact if anything it might even encourage us to want to give more, but only give out of cheerfully giving and not because you have to. For the Lord loves a cheerful giver( 2 Corinthians 9:7 ). Our firstfruits include the first of anything. Another words when you get paid, you should go ahead and take off the amount for God. How much that is between you and God. Like I stated earlier, God desires a cheerful giver. He is not keeping a tally on how much you putting in the offering plate. Trust me you can't buy your way into heaven or past judgment( Proverbs 11:4, Acts 8:20-22) .

It's not easy giving up the best and the first of what you have, but considering what He gave for you does He deserve any less? You know thinking of this verse makes me think of the first commandment( Exodus 20:3 ). Think about it, if we don't give up our firstfruits to Him thinking we need them are we not in a sense practicing a form of idolatry. Honor Him in all you do from giving your firstfruits to how you speak and how you act. Be a living testimony to your family and those you interact with. I love what the apostle Paul wrote in the book of Colossians do all things heartily to the Lord( Colossians 3:23 ). I believe this sums it up well, do all things, whether its working at your job, giving your firstfruits, or taking your dog for a walk do all heartily for the Lord for He is worthy of all our praise.

Brothers and sister I send encouragement as this year moves forward. I know it seems dark with the economic downturn. Sure the media and the world has nothing, but one bad news after another whether its the dow jones, unemployment, or just the economy in general. I instead encourage you to read in the Word where the Psalmist says I was young and now am old and never were the righteous forsaken nor begging bread( Psalm 37:25 ). Does this mean we won't have to endure trails? No, but it does mean we do God will be with us every step of the way. He will provide our every needs. We just need to lean on Him ( Proverbs 3:5-6 ). Don't lose hope, just hold fast and hold on to Him.

Repent of your ways, your sins and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Don't let your past or not being perfect get in the way( Psalm 103:12, Romans 3:23 ). Instead cast yourself upon His mercy( Luke 18:13 ). Remember He is waiting on you with arms wide open( John 3:16 ). Who Can Escape God's Judgment? ( Romans 2:1-3 )

Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Romans 2:1-3

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With God there is no respect of person( Romans 2:11 ). Sin is sin. As verse the apostle Paul is talking about in verse one is how can someone judge someone who is sinning if in fact they are sinning as well. This what the pharisees were doing, sure they may not have been going out murdering people or committing huge sins, but as Jesus revealed they were guilty of more sin than the others. The biggest sin was they had abandoned their first love and you could say they had broken their first commandment through legalism. Amazing how some people think just because what they do isn't as bad that it's alright. This is essentially the question the apostle Paul write in verse three asking do you think you who judges escape God's judgment? We as believers know this answer and it is no. No one is beyond God's judgment. In fact the bible is very clear in Hebrews where it says that all men die once and then on to judgment( Hebrews 9:27 ). To those of us who have trust Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior we have eternity to look forward to. To those who don't, they have hell the second death to look forward to.

Now as a Christian the best advice I can give is ultimately we are not to judge in the sense of an ultimate judge. We can't say we know where there heart is with God,but instead direct them to Him. Show them this in how we live and through His Word. Remember a living testimony speaks volumes. To me the best example we have in scripture is of Stephen the first Christian martyr. I believe his life had an impact on the apostle Paul. Remember little is much with God in it. One thing I've found so awesome is He doesn't need us,but He desires to use us.

So friends I encourage you to reach out to someone who doesn't know Jesus Chris as Lord and Savior. Share the good news, remember this could make the difference where they spend eternity. Sure the choice is theirs, but how could not want to tell them. You would run in a burning building to rescue someone right? Don't be afraid of them being offended or mad. Instead care more about their eternity.

In those arms you will find love( John 15:13 ), mercy( Romans 5:6-8 ), forgiveness( 1 John 1:9 ), and a grace that is sufficient( 2 Corinthians 12:9 ). Will you choose Him? Will you let Him set you free from the bonds of sin( John 8:36 ) ? I encourage you to do so. This is the single greatest choice you will ever make. It is a matter of life and death, life and death eternal( John 3:18 ). Don't wait, make the choice tonight( Matthew 24:36 ) !

Blessed Be The Name Of The LORD ( Job 1:21-22 )

And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

Job 1:21-22

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You know I find Job to be an amazing and inspiring man of faith. Truly he placed his trust in God completely. He realized that when he came into this world he came in with nothing and nothing would he leave with. The apostle Paul reminds Timothy of this in his letter to him( 1 Timothy 6:7 ). So why is it today we live in a society that is so focused on having this and that. Why is it we must have the latest this and that. The truth of the matter is when you die it won't go with you. So why is it people focus so hard on material items that have so little value, that consume their time? I can answer that question very simply because they care more about themselves.

Another thing I noticed right off in verse 21 is how in the Job says blessed be the name of the Lord. Despite the fact of just losing his property and his children Job is praising God. How many of us could do that? The thing that is exactly how we should be, praising God through our storms just as when the sky is blue outside. It doesn't mean it will be easy, but He will be there. When we experience loss God will provide comfort and a peace that nothing and no one else can provide. Think about it this way if someone you love who is a brother or sister in the faith dies as a result of cancer think of how they are no longer in pain. Think of how they are starting eternity with Jesus Christ where there is no more pain, no more grief, and one sweet day you will join them.

Then we see in verse 22 it says Job sinner not nor charged God foolishly. Another words Job did not go out and go blame God for mis fortune. He didn't sin by using the Lord's name in vain, instead Job remained faithful. Job trusted in God and put His faith in Him completely. Was it easy? As anyone who has read the book of Job knows no,but in the end for his faithfulness God blessed him indeed. God honors those who are faithful and those who put their trust in Him.

So friends I encourage you to trust God completely and know that God has your best interests always. Sometimes you will go through trials, but be assured that they will only strengthen you for the path ahead. When you need strength remember we can call on Jesus and He will give us the strength we need( Philippians 4:13 ). Remember don't tell God how big your storm is, instead remind the storm how big God is.

Repent of your old ways, sins and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Will you choose Him? Will you let Him set you free from the bonds of sin( John 8:36 ) ? I encourage you to do so. This is the single greatest choice you will ever make. Watch Your Mouth ( Ephesians 4:29 )

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Ephesians 4:29

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think this verse is very clear yet it seems today there are certain Christians not adhering. The Christian life isn't just who you are when you are at church, but it is who you are everywhere and every moment of your life. As Christians we need not be speaking any foul or crude language. Now I've heard some people say well this situations calls for it or I got mad. Friends there is no justification for the use of any foul or crude language. This kind of language is as this verse describes corrupt communication. You can't tell me using foul language even those words which people say are not that bad can be used to edify. As Christians we should be sensitive to sin and to me foul language/corrupt communication falls in that category most certainly.

Think about friends we are supposed to part of the great commission to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Part of sharing this good news is sharing words of grace that minister to other believers. I've found in the short time I've been walking with the Lord that I've been an encouragement to other brothers and sisters. I've been able to share words of encouragement and help them out, another words minister to them. This is what we as a body are to be doing.

Getting back to the corrupt communication and the justification. When a person begin to justify something knowing that it is wrong, but thinking its only a little bad is beginning on sin's slope of compromise. People like to think they fall in sin,but the truth is sin is a slippery slope and it begins with a toehold, followed by a foothold, and then before you know he has a stronghold in your life. This is why the Bible clearly warns us to be sober and vigilant cause he out there waiting for us to have our guard down( 1 Peter 5:8 ).

So friends I encourage you to speak words of kindness, gentleness, and of peace. Do no speak froward or with corrupt communication. Speak so that you ministers and edify other believers and that you may sound as grace to others. Who knows in sharing your testimony you could lead someone to Jesus Christ? Don't wait , sharing this good news will determine where they spend eternity.

Will you choose Him? Will you let Him set you free from the bonds of sin( John 8:36 ) ? I encourage you to do so. This is the single greatest choice you will make. It is a matter of life and death, life and death eternal( John 3:18 ). Don't wait, make the choice tonight( Matthew 24:36 ) !

O Keep My Soul ( Psalm 25:20 )

O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.

Psalm 25:20

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Awesome and so true. I must say the book of Psalm is one of my favorite books in the Bible. God is the keeper of our soul and our deliverer. Remember as it written fear not those who can kill the body, but the one who can kill both the body and soul in hell( Matthew 10:28 ). So many times people become ashamed of their faith or become quiet cause they are afraid of what will happen if they speak out. What I wonder is how can they do this? How can they hide their light? Did not Jesus clearly say in His sermon on the Mount that we should let our light be shown so that all the world shall know( Matthew 5:16 ). Through our testimony, our light we lead them to the true light( John 1:9 ), Jesus Christ who can truly set them free from sin( John 8:36 ) and give them salvation a free and wonderful gift for all who believe in Him ( John 3:16 ).

I love how how in the second half of this verse it says let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in thee. Truly once you put your trust in God there is no need to be ashamed in Him. For in Him you find nothing to be ashamed of. See to be ashamed of something there has to be something wrong with it and well He is perfect, just, holy and good. So with that said ,there is no shame, but only good things such as joy, peace, and hope. I know that when things seem rough and I just don't know how to figure them out I have the solution in Him. I know when life's storms roll in I can cling to Him and He will be there with me. Now does this mean I won't have a bad day? Certainly not, but what it does mean is that I have someone to hold onto every step of the way. God will never leave me nor forsake me( Deuteronomy 31:8 ).

Repent of your old ways and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Will you choose Him? Will you let Him set you free from the bonds of sin( John 8:36 )? I encourage you to do so. This is the single greatest choice you will ever make. It is a matter of life and death, life and death eternal( John 3:18 ). Don't wait, make the choice tonight( Matthew 24:36 ) !

God Orders The Steps Of A Good Man ( Psalm 37:23 )

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

Psalm 37:23

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love this verse. Truly when we submit to His will He does order or set our path. Now I'm sure there are people out there thinking I don't want God setting my path out. Well, believe it or not He knows the plans He has for you and they are for you to prosper( Jeremiah 29:11 ). Now does this mean the road will always be easy? No ,but no where in scripture does it say that the Christian life is easy. We didn't sign up for the easy life, we choose to live the right way of living. We choose to conform to the image of the one who died so that we may have eternal life. No matter what trials we go through they all work for our good( Romans 8:28 ). I know it may be hard to see when going through those times. Then when we look back we see our God strengthened us through this trial. God continues to prepare us in life through trials that are for our benefit and to bring Him glory that is due.

I would like to point out how it says in the second half of the verse that he delights in his way. God delights in those who follow in His ways. God honors that man or woman and finds joy in an obedient servant/friend. Remember we are servants, but also friends as Jesus referred to us( John 15:15 ). We serve God,but He also calls us friend. I find that so awesome that He is all powerful and we serve Him,but He calls us friend. That shows you the intimate relationship He wants to have with every person, but sadly so many reject Him.

So friends I encourage you to seek His face. Ask Him to guide you in your life. Not just in major decision, but in everything. Let His Word be your compass. I guarantee the Word will never lead you wrong. Your heart( Jeremiah 17:9 ) and mind( Proverbs 14:12 ) may deceive you,but the Word never will.

For anyone reading this tonight who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior I invite you to do so. Ask Him into your heart and admit your a sinner in need of His forgiveness. Be real with Him and cast all your worries, doubts, and fears at His feet, the feet of mercy for He cares for you ( 1 Peter 5:7 ). Repent of your ways and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Will you choose Him? Will you let Him set you free from the bonds of sin( John 8:36 )? I encourage you to do so. This is the single greatest choice you will ever make. It is a matter of life and death, life and death eternal( John 3:18 ). Don't wait, make the choice tonight( Matthew 24:36 )!

Esteem One Another ( Philippians 2:3-4 )

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Philippians 2:3-4

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What the Apostle Paul is addressing here is that we should not esteem ourselves, but instead give credit to one another. Another words if we do something that is good we don't need to give ourselves an ego boost. Ever met someone who seems to just talk about what they have done and how great they are ? Does that kind of person resemble a Christ like attitude? Certainly not and why? Read Philippians 2:5-8. First off I want to say there is nothing wrong with telling people about talents you have or cool things you have done, but when it becomes a matter of vainglory or wrongful pride then it does become sinful. What do I mean by wrongful pride? Well, being so proud in one's ability to do anything that you don't rely on anyone, even God. That would be sinful. Now being proud of being a Christian or getting an an A on a test certainly there is nothing wrong with either of those. In addition aren't we supposed to be edifying the church , the body of Christ and how can we do that by building our own personal ego.

So many times though when people get proud of something they have done they tend to take it far. That it why the apostle Paul said to esteem one another. Another words tell someone else when they do a good job on something. Don't ask for compliments on something you do instead do your best and let another praise your work( Proverbs 27:2 ). Remember we should do all things heartily to the Lord( Colossians 3:23 ) whether we are cutting the grass, cooking a meal or cleaning windows do it all to the best of our ability and to bring His name all the glory due.

Friends remember we really have nothing to boast over. After all it was Him who save us from our very sins. Praise Him in the storms and sunny days of life. Remember the He is the same day to day( Hebrews 13:8 ). He will never leave you nor forsake you( Deuteronomy 31:8 ).

For anyone reading this tonight who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior I invite you to do so. Ask Him into your heart and admit your sinner in need of His forgiveness. Be real with Him and cast all your worries, doubts, and fears at His feet, the feet of mercy for He cares for you( 1 Peter 5:7 ). Repent of your old ways and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Don't let your past or not being perfect get in the way( Psalm 103:12, Romans 3:23 ). Instead cast yourself upon his mercy( Luke 18:13 ). Remember He is waiting on you with arms wide open( John 3:16 ). In those arms you will find love( John 15:13 ), mercy(Romans 5:6-8 ), forgiveness( 1 John 1:9 ), and a grace that is sufficient( 2 Corinthians 12:9 ). Will you choose Him ? Today Isn't Tomorrow ( Ecclesiastes 7:14 )

In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.

Ecclesiastes 7:14
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Consider this as this as you read this verse, God is the same each day( Hebrews 13:8 ). Does He change just because we are having a bad day? Absolutely not, but He did promise that He will be with you when we are going through trouble. Remember He is our strength( Psalm 18:1), our refuge( Psalm 46:1 ), our strong tower( Psalm 61:3 ), and redeemer( Psalm 78:35 ). Remember that it rains both on the just and the unjust( Matthew 5:45 ). What we need to do is on good days praise God for He is worthy and due our praise and on our bad days do the same. Remember we were created to praise Him. Is it not our worthy and reasonable service to honor the one who gave us life?

Another thing that is covered here is how man as in mankind can find nothing or his future in his day. Another words you can not determine your future by your day. This makes perfect sense. I mean just because you have a bad does not mean your never going to succeed in life and accomplish nothing. It just simply means your having a bad day. Then again having a great day doesn't mean tomorrow your going to become rich over night. For one money doesn't solve all of life's problems. Sure its necessary, but remember when you put anything before God its become idolatry( Exodus 20:3 ).

Friends essentially no matter our circumstance we need to praise God. Remember there is something in our life to be thankful for. You know the more I look at my life through His eyes and see what He has blessed me with the more I have become thankful on a daily basis. Not only do we need to look through His eyes, but to filter our thinking and our daily actions through His Word. The Word clearly states that we are to bring every thought under captivity( 2 Corinthians 10:5 ). Like I've stated before none of us are perfect, but instead we should be seeking to conform ourselves to His image. We should be pursuing to mold ourselves to more like Christ each day and part of that is learn to praise God through the storms of life. Realizing the trials of this life are little compared to the riches in glory that await us who have been saved by grace through faith.

Be encouraged daily as you walk with God whether its blue skies or the rain is coming down and the wind is blowing hard. Remember when the storms do come you have someone to hold on to. He won't leave you hanging and will be with you. He will weep with you when you are weeping and rejoice with you when are rejoicing. Remember He is close to those who are hurting and need Him( Psalm 34:18 ).

In those arms you will find love( John 15:13 ), mercy( Romans 5:6-8 ), forgiveness( 1 John 1:9 ), and a grace that is sufficient( 2 Corinthians 12:9 ). Will you choose Him? Will you let Him set you free from the bonds of sins( John 8:36 ) ? I encourage you to do so. This is the single greatest choice you will ever make. It is a matter of life and death, life and death eternal( John 3:18 ). Don't wait, make the choice tonight( Matthew 24:36 ) !

Jesus Christ: Outside Him We Can Do Nothing( John 15:5 )

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

John 15:5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This verse is very familiar I'm sure to any Christian as part of the parable of the vine. In this verse here Jesus makes it clear that us that abide in Him bring much fruit. We know those fruits as the fruits of the spirit such as love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance( Galatians 5:22-23 ). Outside Him we can truly bear no fruit, no good fruit. Now I know some people will say I've met some good people and they seem to be peaceful or they have joy. My question is do they really have joy? Do they have the peace that passes all understanding( Philippians 4:7 ). Friends I've found the only true joy is in Jesus Christ. Don't get me wrong I do find joy in other things, but without Christ they are but dung as the Apostle Paul wrote( Philippians 3:8 ).

Without Christ who are we? The answer is simple, nothing. I find my identity in Him for it was Him who showed me all I could be. It was Him who laid down His life so I could have life eternal. I do this out of loving obedience for the one who gave me life and the one who has provided, who provides and who will continue to provide.

So friends I encourage you to grow in Him and to get deep in His Word. Continue reaching out to those who are lost as this year continues. Don't become discourage by the news or how things seem instead be encouraged through the Word of God and know that with His strength you can do all things( Philippians 4:13 ). An old testament prophet spoke it and Paul quoted him the just shall live by faith( Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17 ).

Repent of your old ways and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Don't let your past or not being perfect get in the way( Psalm 103:12, Romans 3:23 ). Instead cast yourself at His mercy( Luke 18:13 ). Will you choose Him? Will you let Him set you free from the bonds of sin( John 8:36 ) ? I encourage you to do so. This is the single greatest choice you will ever make. God Is Our Refuge & Strength ( Psalm 46:1 )

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amen to that. I know sometimes it doesn't seem like, but He is there. I know back in November when my grandmother was sick and nearly died He was there with me and my family. He kept me and my family strong through it all. Like it says in this verse He is our strength and our refuge. I know the reason I could stand and say that night "your will be done," was cause I was being sustained by God. I knew that by trusting in Him that He knew my needs and that only He could meet those needs.

See so many times people run to so many outlets to make up for their weakness. They think man what can this world offer me to pick me up and make me feel good. Friends the only lasting strength you can find is in the Word of God. I've found that in my weakness God reveals perfect strength( 2 Corinthians 12:9 ). That perfect strength is found when we kneel down and receive His strength. That through Him truly we can do all things( Philippians 4:13 ). You know since giving my life to Him I've found life to be so much fuller. I told a friend and fellow brother in Christ that I really didn't start living till I knew Jesus Christ as Savior. Now whenever I am faced with a problem big or small I turn to God. I know He is there whenever I need Him. I don't have to care if it is 3 in the morning or 11 at night. He is there ready and always willing to listen to me. So friends I encourage you if there is something that is bothering you take it to the Lord in prayer. Remember He is always there, always available to listen and as the psalmist wrote very present in time of trouble. So I guarantee as the scripture states He is there when you need Him, just call on His name and He will He will hear you and deliver you.

If You Love Him, Keep His Commandments ( John 14:15 )

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 14:15
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Man this verse does sum things up very beautifully. We serve God out loving obedience. Jesus set this example when He went all the way to the cross to die for the world's sins at calvary( 1 John 2:2 ). You know friends I find the more I walk with the Lord the more I want to do this because I love Him. I know more of my brothers and sisters in Christ will agree. It's the deep intimate relationship a Christian develops with Jesus Christ and continues to grow throughout their life. It's knowing how much He means to you and how grateful everyday you are that He choose to bear our sin so that we could spend eternity in Heaven with Him. Truly Jesus lived out what He spoke when He said no greater love than to lay down one's life for a friend( John 15:13 ). Jesus laid down His life down so we could have it more abundantly( John 10:10 ).

Friends now I know your thinking well I have moments where even I slip and break His commandments. Yes and God knows your not perfect. What this is talking about is, is if you love Him you will seek to do His commandments. Sure you will come short, but it is about direction( Romans 12:1-2 ). The apostle Paul summed it up well when he said that all have fallen short of the glory of God( Romans 3:23 ). None of us are perfect, but if we love the Lord we need to seek to follow and keep His commandments. They really are not hard if prepare ourselves daily with the armor of God and the weapon He gave us in His Word( Ephesians 6:10-18 ). I've found that the more you fill your self with things that are good, noble, of good report and of good value that you tend to think on them. So spend time in the Word and believe it or not your less likely to end up breaking God's law.

For anyone reading this tonight who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior I invite you to do so. Ask Him into your heart and admit your a sinner in need of His forgiveness. Be real with Him and cast all your worries, doubts, and fear at His feet, the feet of mercy for He cares for you( 1 Peter 5:7 ).

Jesus Christ: Our Advocate To The Father ( 1 John 2:1-2 )

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

1 John 2:1-2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The apostle John addresses a few points in these two verses. One he is speaking to the believers saying little children sin not. Another words when we are born again as Jesus spoke of to Nicodemus of, we should be seeking to live a life according to the Word.( 1 Corinthians 9:14 ). As children of light we should no longer we be walking in darkness, but instead walking in the light sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with all willing to listen( 1 John 1:6-7 ). In fact if you go back to 1 John chapter 1 our very lives should be a living testimony. This is something I've mentioned quite a few times and I believe has a strong impact on people around you. After all as Jesus said we are to be the light of this world and the salt( Matthew 5:13,16 ). How can we be both the salt and light if we are not living the life we talk about? You know people are really looking for something real and sadly there are so many people out there who aren't. Sadly there are people even among the "church going" community . Of course going to church and being a Christian is two very different things. Going to church, reading your bible, and saying your prayers doesn't make you a Christian. Now as a Christian you will desire to do those things. The difference comes at the heart. See God looks at the heart and the motives of the people( 1 Samuel 16:7 ) .

Another thing covered here is that if a believer does make a mistake and sin, that we have an advocate in Jesus Christ. Awesome isn't, to know that when life's journey comes to an end and we come to judgment that despite us not living up to God's standard(The Ten Commandments), that our advocate will say I paid for him or her. See for those of us, believers who have chosen Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior our debt was paid at calvary on an old rugged cross with three nails by Jesus my Savior, my friend, my Redeemer. I'm glad to know that despite my short comings that He covered it all. That everyday I have an opportunity to become more like Him( Romans 12:1-2 ) as I submit myself to His will thanks to His mercies that are renewed daily( Lamentations 3:22-23 ).

Last you see how the apostle John talks about how Jesus didn't just pay the price for those then, but all the world. God doesn't want anyone to perish, but wants all to come to repentance( 2 Peter 3:9 ). Sadly those of us who know the Word, know that sadly people are going to continue to reject His free gift of salvation. They are going to continue to reject His love. Does this mean we give up sharing the gospel? No! Instead this should encourage us to share it with intensity and realize we have a calling in our life that is important. Don't worry about being mocked or that people will hate you. Remember Jesus was hated first and they only hate you cause of His name and not you( John 15:18-19 ).

So friends I send encouragement through the words of the apostle Paul, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me( Philippians 4:13 ). Don't become discouraged by disappointment, instead see where God may be taking you. See what lesson He may be teaching you. Remember all things work for our good( Romans 8:28 ). The road won't always be easy, but always work out for our good and for His plan.

For anyone reading this tonight who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior I invite you to do so. Ask Him into your heart and admit your a sinner in need of His forgiveness. Be real with Him and cast all your worries, doubts and fears at His feet, the feet of mercy for He cares for you( 1 Peter 5:7 ). Repent of your old ways and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2Corinthians 5:17 ). Will you choose Him? Will you let Him set you free from the bonds of sin( John 8:36 ) ? I encourage you to do so. This is the single greatest choice you will ever make. It is a matter of life and death, life and death eternal( John 3:18 ). Don't wait, make the choice tonight( Matthew 24:36 )!

The Righteous Speak Wisdom ( Psalm 37:30-31 )

The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

Psalm 37:30-31

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the book of proverbs it says the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord( Proverbs 1:7 ). A righteous man or woman fears the Lord and that reverence will show in the way he or she speaks. This comes through reading and getting deep in the Word. The Bible is not just a book you carry with you to church on Sunday, no it is so much more. It is everything we need, in fact the apostle Paul described it as a weapon( Ephesians 6:17 ) against our enemy the devil. Notice anytime Jesus spoke, it made people think. They either liked it or they didn't. The truth was those who didn't like it, most likely were doing what He was talking about. In verse 31 it says that law of his God is in his heart, none of his steps shall slide. So what does this mean? What this means is by having God's law in our hearts that a righteous man or woman steps won't slide. Now does this mean we won't make mistakes ? No,but it does mean we won't willfully sin. Even if you didn't mean to do something, it doesn't make it right. .

Friends God can help you from sliding into sin, in fact He can help you avoid altogether if you just ask. Remember as I said last night in my devotional God always provides a way out when temptation sticks its ugly head in( 1 Corinthians 10:13 ). Now as Christians does this mean we will live a perfect life no, but what this means is that if we stay in His Word daily, read it, study it, and apply it to our lives what a difference we will see. I know cause I see it everyday. God continues to mold me everyday and the process never ends. See that is the awesome part is the journey begins when you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and continues till you go home to heaven. Then you get to spend eternity praising Him and spending forever with Him. I long for that day, until then I continue to fight the good fight in whatever way I can. So brothers and sisters in Christ I encourage you to sharing the gospel with this world. Don't be discouraged by those who reject it, but instead press on and run the race with patience.

Repent of your old ways and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Don't let your past or not being perfect get in your way( Psalm 103:12, Romans 3:23 ).

Submitting Yourself To God ( James 4:7 )

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would have to say this is one of my favorite pieces of scriptures. In it you see the power God gives us through Him over the devil. If we submit ourselves to Him than the devil our adversary has no power over us,but instead must flee. You know so many times people allow the devil to seduce them through temptation which is not a sharp cliff, but instead a slippery slope. Now granted none us will ever be perfect, but to avoid sin we must avoid temptation. The Word clearly states in the Lord's prayer, we are to pray to not be led into temptation( Matthew 6:13 ). Therefore by praying to avoid we should be actively living lives that don't compromise our lives as Christians. We need to examine ourselves by the Word and yes it may hurt, but believe me it is for our good. Remember God chastises those who are His and those He loves. It is done for our good and to strengthen us for what is ahead.

What I find another thing awesome is how no temptation will ever come upon us that is too strong for us and that God will always provide a way out( 1 Corinthians 10:13 ). The only way man ever gets caught by temptation is by his own lust and not because God didn't help him( James 1:14 ). Friends be encouraged to know that the devil has no power of you unless you give it to him. Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price on calvary and through Him you can do all things( Philippians 4:13 ), even resist that old serpent.

For anyone reading this tonight who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior I invite you to do so. Ask Him into your heart and admit your a sinner in need of His forgiveness. Be real with Him and cast all your worries, doubts, and fears at His feet, the feet of mercy for He cares for you( 11 Peter 5:7 ). This is the single greatest choice you will make. It is a matter of life and death, life and death eternal( John 3:18 ). Don't wait, make the choice tonight( Matthew 24:36 ) !

Not Perfect, Just Forgiven ( Romans 3:23-24 )

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Romans 3:23-24

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. You know this grace through faith as simple as it is took me so long to get( Ephesians 2:8-10 ). It wasn't until the Lord removed the blinders from my eyes that I got it. The Lord made it very clear nothing I could ever do or ever have done could pay for the sins I had done in my life. The reason for this is because God has standards, standards none of us could ever reach, but that is why He sent Jesus Christ. He sent Jesus Christ to pay for our sins. He commendeth His love upon us( Romans 5:8 ) so we could have eternal life and all He asks is that we believe( John 3:16 ).

The thing is I've found that since the day I gave my life to Christ I want to do more than just believe, I want to serve Him in the way I live and speak. Does this mean I will live a perfect life? No, but it does mean that I seek to conform the way I live, speak and act every day to be more like Him( Romans 12:1-2 ). So I ask is there anyone out there who feels that maybe they are too far from God's forgiveness? Do you feel that you have made too many mistakes? You know I thought the same thing too, but He forgave me and He can and will forgive you too if your willing to confess them to Him( 1 John 1:9 ).Think about the thief on the cross. Despite the life he lived, he was granted eternity. So don't think you are too far from His grace and forgiveness. Just be willing to surrender all and I promise you will gain so much more.

Repent of your old ways and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). Don't let your past or not being perfect get in your way( Psalm 103:12, Romans 3:23 ). This Is The Day The Lord Hath Made: Rejoice!( Psalm 118:24 )

This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you ever just thanked God for waking up to another sunrise? You know the other day before I ate my breakfast I was thanking God for some things and one thing was to see another sunrise. After saying it, it made me think how many times before in my life had I gotten up and been so ungrateful. How many times before I knew Christ as Lord and Savior did I look at the days as just another day. Now instead I see each day as another opportunity to share the gospel. Now I see the joy in the birds in the air, a dog running in the yard, a bug crawling on a leaf or clouds in the sky. It's amazing how once God opens your eyes how things just don't look the same. No matter how rough life gets I realize the Lord is still on the throne. So instead of complaining when it rains I thank the Lord for the rain that nourishes the grass, trees, and plants. Friends I encourage you take joy in nature and all that God has created. In fact in Paul's letter to the church at Thessalonica he writes rejoice evermore, another words always rejoicing( 1 Thessalonians 5:16 ). Think about friends we can always find something to rejoice about it. Even when things get rough we can rejoice in knowing when life's journey ends here on earth we will go home to spend eternity with Jesus Christ in Heaven.

Friends as we continue to move through 2009 take time to enjoy the beauty of what God has created. Rejoice in what He has created and praise Him for He is due all the glory. Rejoice knowing that when all seems to be falling apart with the country and the economy that God is still on the throne and always will be. I encourage you to share the gospel with someone you have never shared it with. Be bold and not ashamed. For in the gospel is the power of salvation( Romans 1:16 ).

For anyone reading this tonight who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior I invite you to do so. Ask Him into your heart and admit your a sinner in need of His forgiveness. Be real with Him and cast all your worries, doubts, and fears at His feet, the feet of mercy for He cares for you( 1 Peter 5:7 ) Repent of your old ways and find your identity in Jesus Christ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ).
